Dr. Rebecca Alowo is a seasoned water engineer, researcher, and lecturer at the University of Johannesburg’s Department of Civil Engineering Technology. With over a decade of experience in Engineering and Natural Resource Management, she has led sustainable development projects, developed monitoring tools, and contributed to global impact assessments. Her work focuses on groundwater sustainability, with her doctoral research centered on using AI for hydrological modeling in South Africa’s Modder River catchment.
Dr. Alowo holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from the Central University of Technology, a Master’s in Engineering for Sustainable Development from the University of Cambridge, and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Makerere University. She is a registered member of both the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) and the Uganda Institution of Professional Engineers (UIPE).
Beyond academia, Dr. Alowo is a passionate mentor and development strategist, known for her leadership in steering impactful programmes and partnerships. She balances her professional life with being a devoted mother and an active, faith-driven member of her community.
